The arrival of John Stones at Inter has been met with enthusiasm by the Nerazzurri fans and with regret by other clubs. Only the medical examinations and signatures are missing to complete the deal that brings the Manchester City defender to the Nerazzurri.
Enzo Bucchioni revealed a behind-the-scenes detail to Radio Sportiva: “There has been this relationship, this idea from Inter for some time, which had been somewhat abandoned and then Juventus got involved. And perhaps, in my opinion, this allowed Inter… it pushed Inter to speed up in order to secure this player.”
The journalist explained that the risk of losing the deal materialized precisely in the last few days: “They risked losing him because in the last two or three days Juventus got involved, he was also offered to Juventus and discussions were underway. If Inter speeds up, as we saw at the World Cup, they get a great player even if he is 32 years old.”
Bucchioni then added an overall assessment of the defensive market: “A leader of the defense, who needed a change of scenery and is going to a great club. If they also manage to get Romero along with other targets, they will have two defenders who are much, much stronger than those who have left.”
