Bayer Leverkusen will be Inter’s opponent in the sixth matchday of the new Champions League. Simone Inzaghi’s team is set for a tough away game in Germany as they seek a victory that would take the Nerazzurri even closer to a direct spot in the round of 16, without having to go through the playoffs.
As for the match between Bayer Leverkusen and Inter, UEFA has officially appointed referee Slavko Vincic to lead the game. The Slovenian whistle-blower will be accompanied by assistant referees Tomaz Klancnik and Andraz Kovacic, and Matej Jug as the fourth official. Completing the all-Slovenian referee team will be Alen Borosak in charge of VAR.
The referee has a notably good record with the Inter: in the only three previous matches with him on the pitch, the Nerazzurri have never been beaten. The first was in 2014 in the Europa League when they drew 1-1 away with Saint-Étienne. The second was a 0-0 home draw in December 2020 in the Champions League with Shakhtar Donetsk.
The latest, and the most recent, is the spectacular victory at San Siro on October 4, 2022, against Barcelona with the decisive goal by Calhanoglu. The match was marked by contentious refereeing due to the protests of the Catalans. The experienced 45-year-old official also refereed the latest Champions League final won by Real Madrid against Borussia Dortmund last June.
