A tool in modern football that is always much debated is surely VAR, particularly the manner in which it is used. The introduction of this technology into the major leagues and cups of the football world was undoubtedly a significant innovation, and since 2017 it has become standard practice in Italy and other countries.
However, studies and analyses are constantly ongoing, aiming to understand how this technology can be improved and made more effective. A test will already be implemented in upcoming matches of the Italian championship and Coppa Italia. Serie A officially announced this today through its official website.
Beginning with matchday 30 of Serie A, scheduled to take place at the end of this week, the VARDict signal will be introduced. The VARDict consists of television graphics displayed during referee checks at the VAR monitor, which will also be projected onto the stadium screens in order to inform the spectators.
Additionally, during the semifinals and final of Coppa Italia, experiments will be made with the Referee Audio Signal. In this case, match officials will directly explain to stadium spectators and television viewers which decisions have been made, but this will happen only following VAR intervention through On-Field Review OFR.
