The defeat against Bruges has reopened the debate about Inter‘s difficulties in the Champions League. On Sport Mediaset, Trevisani and Callegari offered different, but both critical, interpretations of the Nerazzurri team’s European results.
The topic was introduced with a direct question: “Inter’s Champions League syndrome: problem or coincidence?” Riccardo Trevisani did not hesitate to take a stand. “There is definitely some problem. Coincidence is not the right word after so many defeats between this year and last year in the Champions League,” declared the journalist. The continuity of negative results, spread over this season and the previous one, makes it difficult—according to him—to dismiss the issue as just a series of unfavorable episodes.
Massimo Callegari, on the other hand, shifted the focus to expectations and the tactical choices made in the match against Bruges. “It is primarily a problem for those who believe that Inter is on the same level as the Champions League giants. The team was not content to settle for a draw with Bruges and launched into an exaggerated assault,” observed the journalist.
Two distinct perspectives, then: for Trevisani, the issue is structural and measured by the continuity of results; for Callegari, match management also comes into play. The defeat against the Belgians, in any case, further complicates the Nerazzurri’s European journey.
