Three goals by Tresoldi, a hat trick worth three points, leaving Inter with zero points in the standings after two Champions League matchdays. At San Siro, Club Brugge wins 4-3 in a match full of twists, comebacks, and chances for both sides. For Chivu, it’s the second consecutive defeat in the competition.

The home side starts well and creates the clearest chances in the first twenty minutes: first Diouf is stopped by former teammate Sommer, then Thuram grazes the post with a diagonal shot, and finally Lautaro shakes off his marker but shoots wide. The Nerazzurri’s 3-5-2 proves hard to read for Leko, the Belgian coach who had said on the eve of the match that he admired the way Inter plays that formation.

Brugge, however, does not just watch. Forbs triggers a scramble in the box that frees Vanaken, blocked by Bisseck. Shortly after, Tresoldi rattles the crossbar on a rebound. Then comes the penalty: Calhanoglu brings down Forbs in the box, and Tresoldi converts under the Curva Nord, finding the top corner. Calhanoglu responds immediately, smashing the crossbar with a powerful right-footed shot. Before halftime, Martinez levels the score, using all his experience to turn and shoot: 1-1 at the break.

The second half starts slowly, with a forced pause after Mechele takes a hit. Lautaro wastes a great chance to take the lead, sitting Sommer down but then shooting weakly. In the 61st minute, Dimarco comes on and nearly scores with a high shot. Then Brugge restores numerical parity by replacing the unlucky Spileers with Lee and immediately strikes: a poor clearance by Martinez, a nutmeg by Forbs 40 meters from goal, and Tresoldi makes it 2-1 into an empty net.

Chivu brings on Esposito and Sucic, taking off Calhanoglu and Thuram, but the situation does not improve. The inside post by Virgili and a reflex save by Martinez on Potts keep the Nerazzurri alive for a few minutes. Then Tresoldi completes his hat trick with a tap-in and takes home the match ball. The Nerazzurri coach switches to a 3-4-3, bringing on Spence and Bonny: Lautaro scores on the rebound after Sommer saves Sucic’s shot, reigniting hope. From the away section, where mocking olés had just started, the tension becomes palpable.

In the 88th minute, Vermant, who came on for Tresoldi, beats Martinez with a lob and seals the result. Bonny scores at the end, but it’s only a 4-3 that doesn’t change the outcome. Inter remains on zero points after two matchdays.
