Totti on Roma: I want a real race with Inter, Napoli and Juve

Francesco Totti was present in Florence for the centenary celebrations of Fiorentina at Viola Park. Speaking to Sky Sport, the former Giallorossi captain talked about the Serie A championship that has just restarted, expressing his expectations for Roma.

“As a fan, I won’t answer,” began Totti. “They started off on the right foot even though it’s only two matches since the start of the championship. Now the real and serious championship begins and I hope Roma can have a real race with Inter, Napoli, Juve because these are the teams fighting for the title. Let’s say there’s a chance to do well, but let’s not say anything.”

The former number ten of the Giallorossi then commented on the social comparisons between Malen and Dybala with the historic duo of Batistuta and himself. “Rome can take you to the stars but it’s easy for it to bring you down as well. They are two extraordinary players but if things continue like this, the fans might change,” he added.

Finally, a reflection on Lionel Messi and his possible farewell to the Argentina National Team. “As I’ve always said, there’s a beginning and an end, but we’re talking about the strongest footballer in the world and when extraterrestrial players retire, it’s a shame. What he did in America was astonishing. He’s in good physical shape and is a player unlike any other, he has a gift that no one else has. It’s always a pleasure to watch him: he’s a football icon.”
