Inter is preparing to finish this season with an inevitably watchful eye also on the World Cup, an event that will see several Nerazzurri players starring with their respective national teams. Not all, however, will have the chance to participate in the competition. Between missed qualifications, retirements from the national team, and absences due to call-ups, the Inter group will be divided between those who will fly to the tournament and those who will remain in Milan.
None of the Nerazzurri goalkeepers will participate in the World Cup.
In defense, Alessandro Bastoni, Francesco Acerbi, and Matteo Darmian will not be present due to the Azzurri’s failure to qualify. For Yann Bisseck, the hope of being called up by Germany has vanished, with Nagelsmann leaving the Nerazzurri defender out. Manuel Akanji will be there with Switzerland, while the situation of Stefan de Vrij with the Netherlands is still to be clarified.
The Netherlands, however, will in all likelihood be represented by Denzel Dumfries. Official confirmation is still pending, and there is still uncertainty regarding his fellow countryman. Unfortunately, there will be no involvement for Federico Dimarco. Carlos Augusto has been excluded by Ancelotti, as has Luis Henrique, who is out of Brazil‘s call-ups.
In midfield, Hakan Calhanoglu will lead Turkey and Petar Sucic will be present with Croatia. No World Cup, however, for Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Piotr Zielinski (Poland), Davide Frattesi (Italy), and Nicolò Barella (Italy), with their respective national teams excluded from the competition. Mkhitaryan would not have gone anyway as he is retired. Diouf is also out.
In attack, Lautaro Martinez will fly to the World Cup with Argentina, as will Marcus Thuram with France and Ange-Yoan Bonny with Ivory Coast. Francesco Pio Esposito with Italy is instead left out.
