A Nerazzurri legend scored the fastest goal in the history of the Madonnina derby between Inter and Milan. It was Sandro Mazzola, then twenty years old and, above all, playing in his first Milan derby of his career. It was February 24, 1963, and Inter came into the league match as leaders after collecting 34 points in the league, ahead of their Rossoneri cousins who had 25 points in the standings (at the time, 2 points were still awarded for each win).
The kick-off was entrusted to the team coached by Helenio Herrera, with the very young Mazzola touching the first ball for Di Giacomo. From him to Luisito Suarez and the pass to Corso, who immediately sent it forward to Mazzola who laid it off for Suarez. The Spaniard perfectly completed the one-two and once again Mazzola in the penalty area beat Ghezzi for the opening goal just 13 seconds after the start.
The match later ended in a draw thanks to a goal by Dino Sani in the final quarter of an hour, while it was Inter who, at the end of that same season, won the eighth league title in their history. A group that, in the following two seasons, would go on to win two consecutive European Cups.
