Sommer to Bruges, rejected Tottenham and Villarreal for a starting position

Yann Sommer ended his adventure at Inter by moving to Bruges on a free transfer. The Swiss goalkeeper chose the Belgian league to have the certainty of a starting spot, the same reason that led him to leave Milan.

According to Het Laatste Nieuws, the former Bayern Munich and Borussia Moenchengladbach goalkeeper had also received offers from Tottenham and Villarreal. Both clubs had put more advantageous financial terms on the table compared to Bruges, but Sommer declined for the same reason: no guarantee of being first choice.

The Spurs will rely on Kinsky, while the Submarino Amarillo will entrust the goal to Tenas. For the Swiss player, the financial aspect was not decisive in his decision, nor was the prestige of the interested clubs. The priority was another: to continue winning trophies.

Bruges are the reigning champions of Belgium and among the favorites to confirm themselves, as well as regularly participating in the Champions League. A more concrete prospect compared to what Tottenham and Villarreal could have offered, for whom success is far from guaranteed.
