Lionel Scaloni has announced that he will leave the Argentina bench at the end of 2026.
“I will continue until December. After that, I will talk with president Claudio Tapia. The idea is to relax and take a break. This is a spectacular, dream place. I hope people have the opportunity to be here. Any Argentine would want to be here. It has been a pleasure to be here. An honor. I would have never even dreamed of something like this,” said the coach.
Scaloni then added: “Until December, if the president wants, I will stay here, and after that it will be complicated because it is right that things can change, and I also see it as a good thing. What must remain is this team spirit, this feeling of unity between the players and the fans, this feeling that I believe should never be broken and should last forever. I will stay here until December, and after that I will probably leave.”
The coach finally commented on the choices regarding substitutions, providing an explanation that also clarifies why Lautaro Martinez did not come onto the field. Argentina lost several players to injury. “We had to make many substitutions. I am proud of our players,” he concluded.
