The day after Inter’s resounding 0-6 victory over Lazio, it is a big celebration for the Inter fans who are now optimistically looking at the league table. They are indeed only three points behind the leaders Atalanta but Lautaro Martinez and his teammates still have to make up their match against Fiorentina.
In the columns of La Gazzetta dello Sport, former coach Arrigo Sacchi commented on Inter’s success yesterday, praising the squad and the game of the Nerazzurri: “Simone Inzaghi’s group is an authentic war machine: everyone knows what they have to do, how they have to move, everyone runs, they help each other, they fight, they have the humility to sacrifice themselves and then they let loose in counterattacks that are highly toxic for the opponents. […] It seems to me that Atalanta, Napoli and Inter cited strictly in order of ranking have something more than the others. Inter, in particular, can bring to the balance a quality that, in the long run, weighs a lot: experience. Inzaghi’s boys are used to big challenges, both in Italy and abroad.
According to the former AC Milan coach, Inzaghi’s team can soar in all competitions: “I consider Inter the most equipped team to compete both in Italy and in Europe. I’ve been saying this for a while, it has an extremely solid defense, a midfield that combines determination, imagination and geometry, and an attack with two top-class elements like Lautaro and Thuram to whom, often and gladly, the outside players who come from behind and go to the finish are added. The goals of Dimarco and Dumfries at the Olimpico are proof of this.
Sacchi concludes by discussing what is needed in Europe to compete at the highest level: “This Inter seems to me a really complete team, I see no weak points. Now it has the obligation to continue to push on the accelerator, above all it must not believe that it has already reached the finish line. The strength of this group is the great compactness that Inzaghi has been able to give it. He has worked on it for years, he has found the right mechanisms, the departments always have the right distance, if only they would press a little more… You know that I always insist on this detail: in Europe, pressing is fundamental because it helps you to acquire awareness in your means, it gives you strength and courage, it puts the opponents in difficulty who cannot find countermeasures.
