According to Tuttosport, today’s clash between Roma and Inter represents the first real title showdown of the season. Both teams arrive at the fifth matchday with four wins out of four and will compete for the solitary leadership before the break. The match will take place at 6 PM at the Olimpico stadium, with the backdrop of a completely sold-out venue.
The Nerazzurri boast the best attack in the league with 13 goals scored, closely followed by the Giallorossi with 12. On the defensive front, however, Gian Piero Gasperini’s side can count on the most solid backline in Serie A, having conceded just one goal by Svilar. The tactical duel between Gasperini and Cristian Chivu adds further interest to the match, even though past encounters clearly favor the Inter coach.
Gasperini has not beaten the Nerazzurri since November 11, 2018, when he led Atalanta to a 4-1 victory. Since then, he has suffered ten consecutive defeats against Inter across the league, Coppa Italia, and Supercoppa. Inter has become the opponent against whom the Roma coach has lost the most times in his career, with 22 defeats, one more than the 21 suffered against Juventus.
The head-to-head record with Chivu is even harsher: three defeats in as many meetings. In addition to the two clashes from last season, which ended 0-1 at the Olimpico and 5-2 at San Siro, Gasperini also lost on May 25, 2025, in Bergamo when Chivu was in charge of Parma, victorious 2-3 in a decisive match for the Ducali’s survival.
The brilliant start by both teams suggests an open and spectacular game. The characteristics of the two sides could favor a match similar to last April’s clash in Milan, when the Italian champions won 5-2, paving the way to the title, rather than the more tactical first-leg encounter, decided by Bonny’s 1-0 goal.
