On the eve of the first leg of the Champions League quarterfinals, Inter‘s coach, Simone Inzaghi, spoke at a press conference together with Yann Sommer, previewing tomorrow evening’s clash against Bayern Munich, which will take place at 21:00 at the Allianz Arena. Here are all of the statements from the Nerazzurri coach’s press conference ahead of this highly anticipated match.
Sommer: Tomorrow is very important for us; we must have courage. Bayern press high and aggressively, and they’re very strong. We must play our game with confidence on the ball, aiming for victory. It is wonderful for me to be here, I’m truly happy to play with Inter and to be facing Bayern in such a beautiful stadium.
How did you react to the draw against Parma? We are not satisfied because there were moments when the opponent found it too easy to hurt us, as also happened against Udinese. Normally, we have great intensity and keep our distances well. This will be necessary tomorrow, as well, and we aim to showcase it.
Memories from Bayern? I have good memories. Clearly, we wanted to win more titles, but I enjoyed my time here a lot, also with my family. I’m happy to see all the Bayern people again. Urbig? It’s not easy to be Neuer’s backup, but he’s a talented goalkeeper and I like how he plays.
How do you beat Bayern? It will be an interesting game between two great teams. Inzaghi has prepared the match well during our meetings, and we must play the way we know best.
Why do you concede more goals in Serie A than in the Champions League? It’s tough to explain, our goal is always to limit opponents’ opportunities. In the Champions League, we’ve done better than in the league. We need energy and communication as a compact team. It’s difficult to always remain at your best when playing every three days, but we are Inter and always want to win.
How do Bayern and Inter resemble each other as clubs? Both clubs have great strength in football and at a European level. They have also been fortunate to have exchanged many talented players throughout their histories.
