The three new faces arriving from the Premier League have different timelines to reach full fitness. Curtis Jones will join the group at Pinetina for the first time today and could already be called up for Saturday’s away match in Cagliari. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the midfielder has completed several weeks of regular training in Liverpool and Chivu’s staff believe he only needs to be managed without overloading him.
After watching the opening match from the stands, Jones has a real chance of getting on the pitch as a substitute in Sardinia. The former City center-back, on the other hand, has already set foot on the field against Monza, playing the final fifteen minutes when the match was already decided. The defender, who boasts twenty titles, has thus started to get a feel for his new environment.
The situation is different for Spence, who is the furthest behind physically among the entire British contingent. The winger with braids, who starred at the American World Cup with Tuchel’s England finishing third, switched off after that tournament and now needs to rebuild his fitness. He will follow an individual program and is unlikely to be called up for the trip to Sardinia.
For him, the target is the third matchday against Napoli at San Siro, the first direct clash of the season. In that match, again according to the pink newspaper, the entire trio could appear together on the team sheet for the first time. Spence knows he will have to earn his place during training at Appiano, where competition from Diouf is fierce. Meanwhile, the center-back will try to challenge Akanji sooner than expected, the undisputed starter for Chivu at the heart of the defense and his former teammate at City.
