The Nerazzurri club wanted to pay tribute to Giacinto Facchetti on the day he would have turned 84. A message full of affection to remember a figure who marked the history of Inter both on and off the field.

The club emphasized how the figure of Facchetti goes beyond the boundaries of the pitch, even though he was a revolutionary footballer. The full-back was one of the first to interpret the role of the attacking defender in football history, thanks to the intuition of Helenio Herrera, who was able to enhance his qualities and make him decisive in both phases of play.

The numbers of his Nerazzurri career speak for themselves: 634 appearances and 75 goals in seventeen seasons, during which he was a protagonist in winning four league titles, two European Cups, two Intercontinental Cups, and one Coppa Italia. Extraordinary statistics that, however, are not enough on their own to define who Facchetti was: arriving as a boy, growing up as a man in the Nerazzurri, today he represents an indelible symbol of those colors.

After ending his playing career, Facchetti joined the club’s management, first serving as an executive and later as President. A discreet, affectionate but extraordinarily authoritative presence, he continued to lead Inter showing how greatness can be achieved through humility.

July 18 remains the date on which the club and fans remember with particular intensity Cipe’s gentle smile, alive in the memory and heart of the Nerazzurri family.
