The 2024-25 season has just started. The first obstacle for Inter, the reigning Italian champion and the dominant team of the past championship, was Genoa. Genoa was left without star players Mateo Retegui and Albert Gudmundsson. Simone Inzaghi and the nerazzurri started with old certainties: without considering any significant sacrifices, Inter welcomed two valuable assets, Piotr Zielinski for the midfield and Mehdi Taremi, ex Porto’s Iranian forward, both of them on free transfers. With a squad so full of qualities, it may be interesting to try and predict the offensive performances of Lautaro Martínez, Marcus Thuram, and Mehdi Taremi.

The Bull at the Center of the Project

The reference point in such a solid offensive department was and remains Lautaro Martínez. Fresh from renewing his contract, the Bull is coming from confirmation in the Copa America with Argentina and aims to once again dominate the scorer’s table, after a season with 27 total goals in nerazzurri uniform. With 24 goals scored in Serie A, Lautaro Martínez became the top scorer of our championship for the first time in his career. The player is going through a period of full maturity and excellent physical condition, so it is reasonable to expect that he can try again this year. It would be a surprise if his goals in the championship were less than 20: the bookmakers predict the Bull as a top scorer in this season as well. Where he could significantly improve, however, is in the cups: last year he scored two goals in the Champions League and one in the Italian Super Cup, while he failed to score in the Coppa Italia due to Inter’s premature elimination through Bologna.

Marcus Thuram in Search of Confirmation

After setting the record of goals in a season in his last German year, Marcus Thuram established himself at Inter with 13 goals and 7 assists in 2023-24. His impact on nerazzurri’s season was significant: beautiful and heavy goals that significantly contributed to giving the second star to Inter. This year, confirmation is expected: bookmakers see Marcus Thuram as one of the best forwards in our championship.

Taremi, a Luxury Alternative

Mehdi Taremi is Inter’s new face, arrived on a free transfer from Porto after beating the competition from other European football big names, including Milan. The Iranian striker has already shined in friendlies: a brace against Lugano, a goal against Pergolettese, and a brace against Las Palmas, suggesting the possibility of confirming the excellent scoring averages already appreciated in Portugal. From 2020 to 2024, Taremi scored 64 goals in 122 appearances, more than a goal every two games. Given all this, and considering also the fact that he might not be a fixed starter due to the presence of two strong players like Lautaro Martínez and Marcus Thuram, Taremi is certainly expected to hit double figures, but it seems less likely that he will pass the threshold of 15 goals. According to bookmakers, however, the Iranian will be one of the best forwards in our championship and his victory in the top scorers’ classification is around 30,00. A smaller contribution is expected in the assist area: Taremi is a finisher, rather than a playmaker.
