The absence of Lautaro Martinez is significant, but Inter has the resources to cope with it. This is the view of Giannichedda, former footballer interviewed by TMW Radio, who analyzed the performance of Italian teams in the second round of the Champions League, also focusing on the Nerazzurri’s situation.
“Inter loses Lautaro, who is a technical and moral reference point, but it is a team built to face these situations,” he began. “Esposito is in good form. The break did not benefit anyone, but it happens.”
In his assessment of the European round, Giannichedda praised Roma as the Italian team that came out best from the clash with their opponents: “This round of cups saw Roma come out better, as they played a great match. But you can’t afford to concede three goals from set pieces. Roma comes out strengthened from this round, the others do not. The fact remains that you played on equal terms with Real for the Giallorossi. The goals conceded can be worked on.”
The former footballer then broadened his reflection to the structural difficulties of Italian football in European competitions, also mentioning the Youth League: “We always talk about intensity, about working on that, but every year we see them coming at us like trains. I watched Roma-Real in the Youth League. Roma played a good match, but we focus on tactics and they give the ball to the best players and move forward. Here, things are too studied. We need to think less about tactics with the youngsters.” One point then caught his attention regarding the Nerazzurri: “The goal Inter conceded from a vertical pass, I don’t understand it.”
