Sofia Fiorini won the gold medal in race walking at the European Championships in Birmingham, setting a new world record. After her triumph, the Tuscan athlete gave statements to Sky Sport microphones, revealing a special connection with Milan and the Nerazzurri colors.
“Two years ago I moved to Milan,” she said, “and I chose the city first, before the university or the place to train. I was in love with the city for various reasons, including Inter. Milan called me and changed my life. I found my place and everything else followed; once you feel good, the results come and you are more at ease.”
In the Italian delegation in Great Britain, the Nerazzurri passion is not lacking. Nadia Battocletti, gold medalist in the 5000 and 10000 meters, is also an Inter fan, as is Larissa Iapichino, competing in the long jump qualifications and a candidate for another medal.
For Fiorini, congratulations came on social media from the Nerazzurri club, which celebrated the extraordinary triumph of the European champion.
