Diouf as a winger and Carlos Augusto as a center-back: Chivu has decided

The choices of Cristian Chivu now seem defined regarding the use of Andy Diouf and Carlos Augusto. The Frenchman is now considered a right wing-back, while the Brazilian will be used as a left center-back. This is a tactical shift that the Inter coach has directly confirmed, clarifying the roles of the two versatile players.

According to Libero, Chivu was explicit: “We have three and a half wing-backs; if you do the math, you’ll see we’re missing one.” That “half” does not refer to Diouf, who is already included among the three available wing-backs and thus promoted to that role. Instead, the definition concerns Carlos Augusto, whom the Nerazzurri coach “prefers as the third in defense.”

The reason for this choice is linked to performance. The Brazilian’s displays when replacing Bastoni among the back three are better than those as a wing-back in place of Dimarco. For this reason, the decision is to use him in that position, where he can perform at his best. Both players are standing out during pre-season training, confirming their importance as versatile resources available to the squad.
