The zero-cost purchases of Taremi and Zielinski were the latest moves at Inter, chronologically, to confirm the club’s strategy in recent years: looking for zero-cost deals to compensate for limited financial resources.
This way of operating in the market has been very effective in recent years and has allowed the team to assemble a highly competitive roster, in Italy and in Europe. And the focus on costs is evidenced by the weekly report of the CIES, the International Centre for Sports Studies, on the money spent in transfers by clubs around the world, to assemble their rosters.
Among the Italian giants, in fact, Inter’s squad cost less than Milan, Napoli, and Juventus. The Nerazzurri spent 329 million euros, with the Bianconeri investing almost double: 626 million euros.
The data on transfer spending does not take into account the wage bill, where Inter makes up ground, given the various zero-cost operations. In any case, it confirms that various other clubs have put more investments on the field to assemble the roster. And it downplays the label of “mandatory Scudetto”, sometimes too superficially attached only to the Nerazzurri.
