The 3-1 defeat against Milan in the derby weighs heavily, and not just because of the result itself. According to Opta data, Chivu is the third coach in history to lose his first three Milan derbies, considering all competitions. A negative record that places the Nerazzurri coach in a very exclusive and certainly unenviable list.
Before him, only two other coaches had experienced such a difficult start in direct clashes between the two sides of Milan. The first was Giacomini, who led Milan between 1979 and 1980, collecting three consecutive defeats in the derbies. Decades later, the same fate befell Leonardo, who recorded an identical record between 2009 and 2011: two losses while on the Rossoneri bench and one with Inter.
Now Chivu enters this ranking after three consecutive derbies without ever finding victory against the Rossoneri. A performance that becomes a further point of reflection for the Romanian coach, who will necessarily have to change course in the next direct clashes with Milan.
