Following Inter’s success against Atalanta in the direct matchup for the top rankings of the Serie A, controversy continues unabated, accompanied by numerous analyses regarding refereeing decisions. Particularly contentious were the red cards issued to Ederson, Bastoni, and Atalanta’s coach Gasperini.
In the Pressing studios on Mediaset, Graziano Cesari, as always, discussed the contentious incidents. The former Serie A referee offered his assessment of Davide Massa’s performance in the match between Atalanta and Inter, specifically criticizing Massa’s actions during the dismissal of Ederson with the following words:
Massa practically went looking for the Atalanta player. I am not attempting to justify Ederson as applauding the referee is never acceptable. However, after Ederson goes past Thuram, he is pushed off balance by the Inter player’s arms. An experienced referee like Massa should have whistled for the foul and stopped the play immediately. But then, why did he go searching for the player, rather than moving to another area of the pitch? He knew this would provoke protests, he did not use good judgement or referee intelligence, and as a result, Atalanta ended up down to 10 men.
