Interviewed by the Gazzetta dello Sport, Fabio Capello expressed his point of view on the World Cup final between Spain and Argentina. The former coach admitted that he thought the decisive match would have been a different one: he believed France was the big favorite, but the French disappointed expectations. England also failed to convince, affected by fear in the decisive moments.

According to Capello, Spain arrives at the final with a solid and well-defined game structure. The Albiceleste, on the other hand, could feel the effects of the battle against England: “Argentina fought a real ‘war’ and won, but everything surrounding that match forced them to spend a lot in terms of physical and mental energy. So the question is: does winning allow them to recover that energy?”

On the subject of offensive choices, Capello also commented on the possible use of Lautaro Martinez. Regarding coach Scaloni’s decisions, he said: “All coaches are superstitious, if I were the coach I would leave him out… Joking aside, you’ll see Scaloni will look at who spent the most in the last match and, in general, throughout the tournament. The solutions from the bench will still be very important.”
