Yann Bisseck looks ahead with confidence after his good performance at the center of defense against Manchester City and his contract renewal until 2031. The German defender is carving out an increasingly important role with the Nerazzurri, showing that he can play different roles in the back three.
The criticism doesn’t seem to affect him. “I don’t care. If people want to criticize me, that’s fine. It’s part of the sport, but I always believe in myself. For me, it’s been a good journey, and I’ll keep going like this,” he told Gazzetta dello Sport.
This year, Inter‘s defense is changing with the arrival of John Stones. In Hong Kong, Bisseck played as a central defender, a role that could suit him: “For me, the most important thing is to play; whether I play as a central defender or on the side doesn’t matter. I just want to help the team—whether as a central defender, on the side, or even as a striker, it doesn’t matter. In the end, the coach decides, and I’m ready to do anything.”
The increased competition doesn’t worry him. “But that’s right, as a footballer you can never rest. If a player of this level arrives, it’s a good thing for the whole team. Also for the defenders who are already here. We have to raise the level, that’s how it is.”
On watching the World Cup from home and his ambitions with the National Team, the defender is clear: “Of course, if you play for Inter you also want to play for the National Team. The coach chose someone else, and that’s fine for me. I went on vacation, now I’m ready to fight for my place. But I think that if I do things well, I’ll have a great chance of being called up.”
On the subject of Jurgen Klopp, a legend for Germans, the defender said: “It’s never easy but he’s a great coach, I hope to be among his ideas. But as I said before, he decides. I hope to be by his side.”
