The Champions League remains an unrealized goal for Nicolò Barella, who in a lengthy interview with Gazzetta dello Sport expressed all his regret for the two finals lost. The Nerazzurri midfielder does not hide how much that missed achievement still weighs on him: “I’ll answer with another word: dream. Having come so close twice and not being able to touch it has never sat well with me.”
Inter came close to the trophy on two occasions, stopping right at the final hurdle. For Barella, it is a recurring thought, but the midfielder is aware of the difficulties the team must face. “It’s a constant thought but we know that, as president Marotta also said, compared to other teams that spend hundreds of millions on the market, we always have to make an extra effort,” he explained.
Despite having fewer financial resources than other European clubs, Inter has managed to compete at the highest level thanks to the style of play and ideas put on the field. “And we did it, with our play, our ideas, and our desire to succeed. We came close twice, let’s hope a third chance comes and that it’s the right one,” the midfielder concluded.
