After reducing the deficit to -35.7 million in the last financial year, Inter has significantly moved closer to the goal set for years to balance the budget. A result that has been missing for a very long time and would allow the club to plan the future with great serenity from an economic point of view.
Despite the company’s finances reaching a healthy state, it is not excluded that next summer Inter could say goodbye to one of its top players. Generally speaking, the club will base its market on self-financing and could open up to the sale of one of its valuable assets if the right offer comes.
In this regard, the prime suspect indicated by the media seems to be Marcus Thuram. The French striker has a termination clause of around 90 million euros and is in the sights of the Premier League and Paris Saint Germain. The top player who could really leave and whom we will discuss in this market analysis, however, is someone else.
The one who has a serious chance of leaving Inter next summer is Hakan Calhanoglu. The Turkish midfielder was recently linked to Manchester City and Bayern Munich, the latter – moreover – after having already tried him last June during the European Championship.
The Turkish midfielder will turn 31 next February, so in front of an offer of about 50 million euros, it is unlikely that Oaktree would say no. The player himself would also be open to leaving if one of the aforementioned clubs were to show up with a dizzying financial offer.
Compared to Thuram, his sale would probably also be less painful. It’s true that at this time, within the Nerazzurri team, Calhanoglu is certainly one of the most important players for Simone Inzaghi, but compared to the Frenchman, he has less room for growth in the future.
Clearly, Inter in this case should protect itself with a suitable replacement, suitable for the game style of Simone Inzaghi which requires a lot of commitment both in possession, but especially in interdiction. A delicate role, therefore, which in recent years has been excellently covered first by Brozovic and then by Calhanoglu, but which could also represent the next step in the growth of the Nerazzurri in terms of the game.
Inter, finally, has always been attentive in recent years to the concept of player trading: from this point of view, therefore, it could be the best time to let go of the Turkish midfielder in front of really significant offers.
To be clear, this does not mean that Inter should give up Calhanoglu: only a mad person at this time could think to strengthen themselves by letting go of a player of his quality, who has probably reached the peak of his footballing maturity. But, from the perspective of having to start an important piece of Inzaghi’s puzzle to fund the incoming market and rejuvenate the Inter’s squad, his could be the most convenient sale to make compared to others like Barella, Lautaro, Bastoni, Dimarco or Thuram.
