The night of the 9-1 against Lens is already behind them. At least in the intentions of Fabregas, who, speaking to the Gazzetta dello Sport, was keen to immediately shift the focus to the next league match: on Sunday, Como will visit Inter at San Siro.

“It’s right to enjoy this moment because the group deserves it,” said the Como coach, “but football moves at a very high speed. I’ve already told the boys that we need to put Lens behind us and think only about Inter. We’re facing a very tough match at the home of the reigning Italian champions, it will be a very demanding challenge both physically and mentally, we have little time but we must prepare as best as possible. The goal is to go to Milan to show our true identity.”

On the historic result — the club’s first European away win, with nine goals scored — Fabregas assessed the performance with balance: “No one could have expected a 9-1, a result that doesn’t exist in football, something like this can happen to you at most once in a lifetime. I’m proud of my boys, the numbers are excellent but we’re only at the beginning of our journey in the Champions League.” Then a critical note: “The goal we conceded made me angry: with the three substitutions we had changed something at the back, but my former teammate Aguilar scored a great goal.”

What struck the coach was not so much the score as the team’s attitude: “A result like this catches the eye, but I like to see the team always trying to give everything. We respected the game plan by constantly pushing forward and always with our idea of football. The boys drove me crazy.” Como arrives at the match against the Nerazzurri after a very busy schedule: it will be the ninth game played in the period between two international breaks.
