The future of Benjamin Pavard remains uncertain after his return to Inter. The French defender, back in Milan following Olympique Marseille’s decision not to exercise their buy option, will be available to Cristian Chivu for the Nerazzurri’s first summer friendly.
Arriving from Bayern Munich in 2023, the centre-back was loaned to the French club in the last transfer window. The French side declined the €15 million purchase option, returning the player to Inter. On July 10, during his medical at CONI, Pavard stated: “If they want me, I’ll stay.”
During the training camp in Germany, the Frenchman worked hard and showed encouraging signs. However, according to Tuttosport, the management still considers him transferable and will evaluate any suitable offers. Al-Ittihad is said to have made inquiries through his entourage.
Inter needs to strengthen its defense after the departures of Acerbi, De Vrij, and Darmian. Pavard’s return represents a variable that could alter the club’s transfer strategies. Should a suitable offer arrive, the club would look for an experienced and low-cost defender, replicating a move similar to the one made for Acerbi in 2022.
If, on the other hand, Pavard manages to convince Chivu and the dressing room, he could stay as an alternative, allowing Inter to limit themselves to just one signing in the defensive department. The priority remains Cristian Romero, although negotiations with Tottenham require a significant investment. The next month will be decisive: Pavard will have to regain trust, minutes, and a place in the new Inter.
