Today, a summit will be held at Appiano Gentile between Inter’s management and Simone Inzaghi. Nobody wants to make a drama out of it as it’s still September and the Serie A table is still very close (Nerazzurri are -3 from Torino at the top), but there will be some discussion about certain aspects and figures from the early part of the season.
Among these – as highlighted by La Gazzetta dello Sport – there is one that stands out above all others: it’s the worst start to the Inzaghi era in the league. In other three seasons, in fact, Nerazzurri had always done better after five rounds compared to the current 8 points: 15 points and a clear path in 2023-24, 13 points in 2021-22 and 9 points in 2022-23, a season in which the atmosphere around Inzaghi – at this time – became very heavy.
In particular, compared to last year, the difference in the goals conceded stands out: only 1 last year (in the spectacular 5-1 thrashing of Milan), as many as 5 this year. Inzaghi will work with the team in order to change the attitude and improve the performance level of four players who have disappointed more than others.
