Christian Vieri accompanies Inter on their tour in Australia as an ambassador for the club. Present at events organized with fans and at the party in downtown Perth, the former Nerazzurri striker gave statements to La Gazzetta dello Sport.
“Inter isn’t just being born this summer. Inter already exists, it’s very strong. It seems to me like a super team. And they’ve already signed Stones, who is a player of great quality and will bring something extra to the defense: experience, quality, a winning mentality,” said Vieri.
According to the former striker, fans should expect great things from the upcoming season. “Let’s see how the transfer market ends, but right now Inter starts again as the favorite for the Scudetto. It can’t be any other way. I also see Napoli doing well, though, because they have a good group and have chosen a good coach like Allegri. The others are further behind. For now, anyway—by September I’ll be able to be more precise.”
On Chivu’s work, Vieri expressed positive opinions: “Cristian deserves applause. He has proven himself prepared as a coach and intelligent as a person. He understood how to awaken the pride of the champions wounded by the Champions League final lost against Psg. Inter needed a figure like this to react.”
The former striker emphasized how the Nerazzurri dominated in Italy by playing beautiful football. “From now on there will be a bit of pressure, because confirming yourself is never easy. But Chivu was used to handling stress even as a player and he won’t have any problems.”
On the risk of focusing too much on the Champions League, Vieri was clear: “No, let’s get rid of this misconception. If you play for Inter you want to win every match and therefore every possible title. When you step into San Siro, you don’t even think too much about the opponent in front of you. You just think about doing your best so as not to disappoint the 75,000 people who pay to see you every time.”
Finally, on the possibility of improving on the double-winning season, he concluded: “Instead, it’s a matter of mentality: after winning two trophies, you have to think that next year you can win three. That’s what the shirt you wear demands of you.”
