A substantial innovation will be introduced in the VAR protocol of the Italian championship starting from this new season. As officially announced this morning during the pre-season gathering of the AIA in Cascia by Gianluca Rocchi, head of the CAN, we will witness a revolutionary turning point with the start of the new Serie A.
Referees, starting this year, will in fact be able to explain VAR decisions to the public in real time, as already happened during the last Club World Cup. The match official will therefore be able to communicate with the entire stadium to explain the choices made following the intervention of the VAR on a specific incident, in order to try to quell any potential controversy at its onset.
With these words, the referee selector Rocchi confirmed the innovation: “We want to increase transparency. The number of referees has been reduced precisely to focus on quality. It is impossible to always have uniform judgments, because every incident is different and every referee is a person, not a machine.”
