The current emergency concerning the external lanes of Inter, exacerbated by the injury sustained yesterday evening by Darmian against Lazio, has forced Simone Inzaghi in recent days to consider tactical alternatives for the Inter formation.

A plan B to the solid 3-5-2, in fact, we saw it for the first time just yesterday evening during the second half of Inter-Lazio. With the changes, in fact, Inzaghi was able to test an unprecedented 4-4-2, receiving encouraging responses. With defense of four, above all, the coach found in Pavard and Bastoni two full-backs of role, suitable for carrying out the two phases. Even Bisseck, used yesterday as a central defender, could however represent a solution both on the right and on the left.

The real novelty, however, Inzaghi proposed it in the midfield. In addition to the omnipresent Dumfries who offered an even more constant participation in the attack from offensive wing, on the left, Piotr Zielinski was tested. The Polish player, protagonist of an incredible match, seemed comfortable in a role clearly distant from his natural position. The former Napoli player tried to open especially the lane to the advances of Bastoni, often gathering in due to his characteristics.

Up front, on the other hand, the presence of two interpreters did not distort the tasks that Inzaghi usually requires from his attackers. The same coach said he was satisfied at the end of the match with the feedback received from the change in module in the last half hour of the game in a winning situation: The 4-4-2 must be a solution because we are in great difficulty on the outside lanes.

In view of a busy end of the season on several fronts and with so many unavailability on the external lanes, the 4-4-2 could appear to Inter as an excellent resource to use in emergency situations like yesterday evening at San Siro and not only.
