Wesley Sneijder returns to talk about Inter and does so ahead of two crucial appointments for the Nerazzurri. The former midfielder gave an interview to the Gazzetta dello Sport in which he shared memories of the past and assessments of the present of the team led by Chivu.
The Dutchman recounted an anecdote about living with the current Nerazzurri coach: “At Inter we shared a room. He always talked about football or with his wife: not very fun… But I understood that he would become a great coach.” Words that show how even then Chivu’s vocation for coaching was already emerging.
On the back-to-back matches against Napoli and Real Madrid, Sneijder is clear: “Before the Bernabeu it’s better to play against a big Italian team like Napoli: in both matches everyone needs to be at 100% and send a message to the world. With two good results, Inter would show that it can win the league again and go all the way in the Champions.”
Inevitable is the comparison with the Treble: “After sixteen years there still hasn’t been a team like ours: we had everything, really everything! I don’t think there’s a player in this Inter who could have played in ours. Lautaro in my place? Let’s not kid ourselves…,” he said with a laugh.
A passage is dedicated to Denzel Dumfries, his compatriot: “It’s easy to understand his choice, if Real calls you, you answer… There are also other valuable right-backs in Madrid and Denzel has to be even better than he has been so far. However, he has quality and knows what it means to play at the highest level: this is thanks to Inter.”
Finally, a reflection on Ausilio’s farewell: “I don’t know why it happened. Piero is a good executive, he helped me from the beginning. I could always call him and, therefore, for Inter it will be a bit strange without him from now on.”
