When the new stadium is completed and San Siro is demolished, Inter and Milan plan to distribute a significant portion of the Meazza seats to fans. According to Corriere della Sera, the two clubs intend to give away or sell at least 60,654 of the 75,817 seats in the stadium, turning them into collector’s items.

Each seat weighs four and a half kilos, for a total of 273 tons of plastic that will not need to be disposed of. The operation represents only the first step in a demolition process divided into five distinct phases.

The first phase, called strip out, involves the removal of all systems: cables, electrical panels, lamps, heating, air conditioners, pipes, and refrigerators, for an estimated total of 5,000 tons. To these are added 2,000 tons of electronic materials, from turnstiles to audio-video systems, enough to fill about 200 containers.

The second phase concerns the dismantling of the roof, built in the 1980s for Italia 90. The short beams weigh 1,100 tons, the long ones 2,100, plus the counterweights and rafts that make up the actual roof. The entire steel structure weighs between 19,000 and 20,000 tons.

The third phase involves the actual demolition, which will produce about 225,000 tons of rubble, equal to 93,750 cubic meters. Almost half will come from the stands of the three rings, while the eight spirals and 19 ramps will add 85,200 tons. The 11 towers will contribute another 37,800 tons.

In the fourth phase, the rubble will be processed directly on the field, where football is currently played. The process involves two rounds of crushing, separation of iron from concrete, and division of materials for disposal, with continuous water spraying to prevent the formation of dust clouds.

The final phase concerns the costs: according to the document submitted by Inter and Milan to the authorities, the demolition of stands, ramps, and towers will require 65 million euros. To this must be added 12 million for other works, 23 million for the disposal of concrete, and 6.5 million to consolidate the part that will be preserved. The total cost of demolition amounts to 127 million euros.
