Liverpool could sacrifice Curtis Jones to improve the midfield squad. According to The Athletic, selling the English midfielder represents the only viable way to bring in a new defensive midfielder in this transfer window.

Jones is in the final year of his contract and his situation remains uncertain. Over the past eighteen months, the player has been linked with several clubs, including Inter. If the Reds decide to keep him without renewing, they risk losing him on a free transfer at the end of the 2026/27 season. An immediate sale, on the other hand, would still guarantee a significant financial return.

Despite the positive performances offered last season, Jones appears to be the only midfielder likely to leave the club this summer. Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai have recently extended their respective contracts, while after the excellent World Cup played by Alexis Mac Allister, it is hard to see why the Reds would let him go.

Losing Jones would not be a painless choice for Liverpool, especially considering the difficulties related to homegrown players. However, his departure could represent one of the few concrete opportunities to strengthen the department. There is about a month left until the transfer window closes and the Reds will have to move quickly to avoid being in trouble at the start of the Premier League season.
