Cichella is inspired by Barella: the midfielder dreams of Roma

Matteo Cichella, a midfielder born in 2005 from Frosinone, expressed all his satisfaction for his first call-up to the Under 21 National Team. Speaking to the official channels of the FIGC, the young player stated: “I am very happy for the call-up. I had been waiting for it for a long time and I am proud that it has come at this moment and during this season.”

In the friendly played yesterday against Empoli Primavera, Cichella celebrated with a brace, confirming his good form. The midfielder also spoke about the impact with Serie A: “Today we are facing a Serie A that is a whole different thing. The environments, the stadiums, and the level of the players change, but we have adapted well and the start of the season proves it.”

Among his role models, Cichella mentioned Nicolò Barella: “In the meantime, I am inspired by Nicolò Barella who, for his role and characteristics, is a great point of reference.” The youngster also revealed his dreams: to play at the Olimpico wearing the Roma shirt and to wear that of the senior National Team. “For now, even the Under 21 has been a great satisfaction, I hope to continue like this,” he added.

Cichella spoke about his childhood idol: “Ever since I was little, Daniele De Rossi has been my idol, partly because of the role, even though I am more of a mezzala, and partly because of his attachment to the shirt. But if you grow up at Roma you don’t have much choice: it’s either him or Francesco Totti.”
