The winning debut of Inter in the league thrilled Nicola Berti, a huge Nerazzurri fan who watched the 4-1 against Monza on TV in the Caribbean. “The match was excellent, it couldn’t have been more positive: the first half was a bit so-so but then in the second we dominated,” the former midfielder told Gazzetta.it.
There was great praise for Pio Esposito, who scored the 3-1 goal with a delightful backheel: “He’s great, by far the best on the pitch, a cut above everyone else. You can’t take the ball away from him even if you shoot him. I loved him and he scored a spectacular goal.”
On the transfer front, Berti gave top marks to the management’s work: “So far it’s been fantastic. Chivu looks really happy because they got him the players he wanted, including Jones, a phenomenon I absolutely love. Now let’s just hope no one leaves, not even Luis Henrique, whom I would keep forever because we’ll need him during the season. Stankovic? He needs a year of apprenticeship, I’d keep him for that. He’s really strong: little by little he’ll carve out his own space.”
The former Nerazzurri also made a prediction about the title race, going against the grain compared to those who say Inter have no rivals in Italy: “For sure the league won’t be as one-sided as people say. In my opinion, it will be a much more complex season for Inter. Milan have gotten younger, apart from the Ballon d’Or winner (Modric, ed.). But even the Rossoneri, after a tough first half against Torino, came out well. In any case, we need to stay focused: the season is long.”
