The farewell of Piero Ausilio to Inter has left many questions. After yesterday’s official announcement, Sky Sport reconstructed the behind-the-scenes details of the separation between the executive and the Nerazzurri club.
According to what Luca Marchetti revealed on the broadcaster’s website, the issue revolved around the contract renewal. Ausilio‘s agreement was set to expire in June 2027 and the extension had been under discussion for some time. Historically, renewals had always lasted three years, considered a standard time frame to allow an executive to plan and assess the results of their work.
The executive had gone through several ownership changes, always maintaining his role thanks to the results achieved. When it seemed obvious that new owners might opt for a change, continuity instead prevailed. Now, paradoxically, the separation comes right after the ownership change had been consolidated and after the victories in the league and the Coppa Italia.
An executive must have enough time to plan and see the fruits of the plan. He must certainly be tied to results, not only those on the field but also economic and financial ones, but with a longer time horizon. And above all, there must be a very solid relationship of trust.
