Pietro Accardi, sporting director of Cagliari, gave a precise profile of Alessandro Romano to the microphones of Tuttosport, confirming the growing interest around the midfielder born in 2006 and closing the door to a possible departure in January.

“He impressed me last year, for how he immediately adapted to a complicated context like that of Spezia,” said the executive. “A boy who, in his first experience among the seniors, managed to impose himself by playing 19 matches out of 19 despite the difficulties shows what kind of mentality he has. In the summer he was definitely in high demand. There were other teams, but I believe that Cagliari’s project and above all the coach from a technical-tactical point of view made the difference.”

Regarding the player’s return after recent commitments with the national team, Accardi explained: “He’s the same as the first day: he knows that the national team has certainly given him something, but at the same time he knows that his path is here at Cagliari.” As for the choice of the blue jersey, the sporting director added that Romano “made his own considerations because he is a person who listens, but at the same time he has his own personality, his own character, so as he himself explained, he felt he made this choice with his heart for the present, but also for the future.”

On the transfer front, Accardi admitted that clubs like Juventus and Inter have not yet directly knocked on Cagliari’s door: “We know very well that he is a player who is starting to attract a lot of interest, as is normal for a 2006-born player with his qualities and still wide margins for improvement.”

The most ambitious comparison, however, comes regarding the possibility that Romano could reach the levels of Nicolò Barella: “For me, absolutely yes. Alessandro must continue to work with the same dedication and determination he has shown here from day one.”

On the possible winter sale, the executive is clear: “To represent these people also means not feeling like you’re just passing through, none of us is thinking of giving up such a valuable asset in January. We are the seventh team in Italy in terms of number of fans, so all of us know what responsibility we have towards our people.”
