John Stones is expected today in Milan to undergo medical examinations and sign with Inter. The English defender will join the Nerazzurri until June 30, 2028, thus ending his decade-long adventure at Manchester City. According to Tuttosport, the deal was completed on a free transfer, allowing the club to add international experience without investing in a transfer fee.
Stones spent ten seasons with the Citizens, winning numerous trophies and becoming one of the most recognizable players in Pep Guardiola‘s football. The technical quality of the center-back is not in question: he knows how to defend, build up play, and move forward into midfield, offering Cristian Chivu different solutions. The main question, however, concerns his physical condition, which has been affected by several problems over the past two seasons.
The medical examinations are therefore a fundamental step. The club will still be able to manage him without rushing, initially relying on a line composed of Bisseck, Akanji, and Bastoni. The Englishman would start with the credentials of a starter, but could be preserved for the most important matches, from direct clashes in Serie A to Champions League games.
The depth of the squad would allow Chivu to manage his playing time and gradually bring him to his best condition. The defender’s experience would also be valuable in the locker room and in the development of the young players in the defensive department. The future of Benjamin Pavard still needs to be defined, as he remains between staying and leaving. Should the Frenchman depart, the club might look for another center-back.
