Stankovic reveals the future: “Now Bruges, but the return to Inter…”

Aleksandar Stankovic, Serbian midfielder of Club Bruges on whom Inter retains the buy-back right for the next two seasons, spoke in a long interview to HLN. The young player explained the reasons for his choice and the deep bond with the Nerazzurri colors.

“I chose Bruges with my heart. They convinced me from the first talks, I immediately had a good feeling. This is a great club that has the courage to give young players a chance. Also in the Champions League, and that weighed a lot in my decision,” he said. On the negotiations, he added: “Inter was a bit slow in the negotiations, but I was sure the agreement would be reached. The buy-back? I have no idea. For me, that clause wasn’t necessary, I just wanted to move to Bruges. It was my decision, I only informed my dad when I had already decided.”

The bond with his family and with Inter remains very strong. “In my family, my brothers and I were born with the Inter shirt. That team is home for us. Dad played in the first team, and we three children went through the youth ranks. Even though I am now a Bruges player, I will always be an Inter fan. That can’t change,” Stankovic emphasized. Then a childhood memory: “When my brothers and I watched Inter matches on TV, we had to close the windows and turn the volume up to the maximum, otherwise we would hear the fans cheering for the goal before we saw it on TV. We lived near San Siro.”

About the Milan stadium, the midfielder expressed all his emotion. “When you think of Milan, you think of San Siro and the Duomo. The demolition of that stadium is like someone taking away a piece of your life. When I was a child and woke up and looked out the window, San Siro was the first thing I saw. And I always told myself: one day you’ll play there. I made it to the first team, but I didn’t play a single minute. That remains a dream I will chase.”

On his current situation, he concluded: “Today Bruges is the best possible environment for me. I need to play and gain confidence. Do I hear from anyone at Inter? No, although I was in contact with Dimarco, who for me is like a family member, he took me under his wing in the locker room. A fantastic guy.”
