Romero prefers Atletico Madrid, proposed offer of 30 million

The race for Cristian Romero is becoming more complicated for Inter. According to Marca, Atletico Madrid is making a strong move in the negotiations for the Argentine defender, who has been the Nerazzurri’s top target for weeks to strengthen their defense.

The Colchoneros are reportedly preparing an initial offer of 30 million euros to Tottenham. The Spanish newspaper highlights that Atletico has a significant advantage: Romero would prefer to wear the red and white shirt. Tottenham has already assured the player that he can leave the club, but the world champion defender’s wish is to move to Madrid.

The deal could be facilitated by the sales of Ruggeri and Molina, who are set to join Aston Villa and Roma respectively. These two departures would free up the necessary salary space to complete the purchase of Romero.

Inter had submitted an offer of 35 million euros plus 5 million in bonuses to Spurs, but according to Marca, the defender’s priority remains to play under Simeone. The connection between Romero and Atletico dates back to last season, when the move to the Metropolitano fell through at the last moment. On that occasion, the Argentine center-back renewed with Tottenham until 2029, but included a special clause in case of an offer from one of the main Liga clubs. The player has never hidden his desire to be coached by Simeone.
