The Tottenham defender, a hot name for the Inter transfer market in these hours, responded to the criticism directed at Scaloni‘s team, accused of having played the match with excessive caution.
“This time it wasn’t meant to be. And believe me, it hurts. It hurts so much because no one wanted to continue writing this beautiful story more than we did,” wrote the former Atalanta and Genoa player on his Instagram profile. The Spurs captain did not hide his disappointment at not being able to win a second consecutive world title: “We dreamed of bringing the cup home, but it didn’t happen.”
The center-back rejected any accusation of lack of commitment. “But if there’s one thing we’ll never lack, it’s dedication. We gave everything. We finished second, but we never stopped representing Argentina with the pride and commitment that this shirt deserves. And I’m proud to be part of this family, damn it,” he emphasized.
According to Marca, which reported the player’s full message, it was a long post in defense of the sacrifice and resilience of the Albiceleste national team. The defender wanted to thank the fans: “We’re sorry we couldn’t give you the joy we so wanted to share. We played for you, for every Argentine who supported us from every corner of the world.”
The speech ended with a look to the future: “Today is the time to get back up. To start again.
