The negotiations for Cristian Romero are currently at a standstill. According to what Alfredo Pedullà revealed on his YouTube channel, the situation has become more complicated in recent days due to difficulties on the outgoing transfer front.
The agreement on salary between the Nerazzurri club and the Argentine was reportedly reached last week: 6.2-6.3 million euros per season, bonuses included. This move was intended to outpace the competition and try to speed up the sale of a defender, a necessary condition to complete the deal.
The sticking point, however, concerns Benjamin Pavard. The Frenchman has not received any appealing offers and has rejected the few clubs that have come forward, deciding to stay in Milan. This situation complicates the management’s plans, as he had been identified as the player to be sacrificed to make room for Romero.
“Inter is in a difficult phase,” explained Pedullà. “If there are no sales, this priority for Romero will be lost. Chivu wants Romero, but Pavard has decided to stay. Today the ball is in Atletico’s court, Inter has not made any sales so far and this is a problem for everyone.”
Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid has entered the race, while Mikel Arteta at Arsenal is also following the defender with interest. However, relations between the two London clubs are reportedly complicated, making that option rather unlikely at the moment.
