The season for Inter on the goalkeeper front is not going smoothly. Sommer is no longer able to guarantee his usual performances, while Josep Martinez has been affected by the tragedy last October that involved him. Looking to the future, however, the name of Guglielmo Vicario is coming back strongly: according to several sources, the goalkeeper would like to return to Italy after two years at Tottenham.
La Gazzetta dello Sport this morning confirmed that Vicario‘s agent has reopened contacts with Inter after the attempts made by the Nerazzurri club in the summer of 2023. The race to bring the Italian goalkeeper back home will be crowded, but president Beppe Marotta and sporting director Piero Ausilio will certainly be among the main players.
The former Empoli player was already considered the ideal goalkeeper for the Nerazzurri three seasons ago, when he was also recommended by Samir Handanovic. It was the summer when Onana moved to Manchester for a considerable sum, 50 million, while Sommer arrived at Pinetina without much fanfare. The relationship with the Spurs fans seems to have soured after the mistake against Fulham that led to heavy boos for the Italian, who later apologized publicly.
Vicario earns 2.5 million pounds and has a contract valid until 2028. A theoretically attackable situation on the market, but the Nerazzurri’s problems go beyond that. First, Oaktree must be convinced to invest around thirty million in a 29-year-old, a profile that does not fit the fund’s parameters. At Tottenham, a traditionally expensive club, the sporting area is led by Fabio Paratici, who is not exactly on the best terms with the Inter management, adds the pink newspaper.
