Liverpool is looking for a midfielder after Jones' departure

Liverpool is working to complete the squad before the start of the season. According to the Daily Mirror, Andoni Iraola had the chance to assess the team during the pre-season tour in the United States, which ended with a 4-2 defeat against Leeds. The Reds were ahead 2-0 at halftime thanks to goals from Luke Chambers and Florian Wirtz, but in the second half they conceded four goals in 25 minutes.

The new coach has not yet been able to work with some key players after the World Cup, including Virgil van Dijk and Alexis Mac Allister, both absent for the tour. Before the away match at Newcastle on August 23, the Premier League debut, the club would like to complete four deals: a defender, a left-back, a right winger, and a midfielder.

The focus is precisely on the midfield. With Curtis Jones set to leave the club this summer, and Inter still keeping the option alive, Liverpool may need reinforcements to avoid difficulties for Iraola. The solution could come from within the squad.

Harvey Elliott, who last summer moved to Aston Villa on loan with an obligation to renew but was then sidelined, could be an option. Another possibility is Trey Nyoni, who impressed during pre-season. However, it might still be too soon for the young talent. It is not ruled out that Elliott could also follow Jones towards a permanent departure. In any case, a new face in midfield would be welcome.
