Jones in Inter's sights: third offer on the table after the Liverpool case

Inter is back in pursuit of Curtis Jones. The Italian champions have made a third offer for the Liverpool midfielder, according to The Telegraph. The move comes at a delicate moment for the player, who was at the center of a controversial episode during the recent friendly against Wrexham.

At the end of the match, Jones was involved in a visibly tense scene. After the Reds’ 1-0 victory, the midfielder barely returned the handshake of coach Andoni Iraola, then shouted and tapped him on the arm while crossing the Yankee Stadium pitch. Dominik Szoboszlai responded with outstretched arms, while Kostas Tsimikas threw the captain’s armband to the ground, landing it at Jones‘ feet.

The Telegraph described the episode as “a pathetic scene.” “There was no authority from a man who desperately wanted it (Szoboszlai), no respect from a man who should never be entrusted with such responsibility (Tsimikas), and no maturity from a man whose patience has clearly run out (Jones),” wrote the English newspaper.

The paper highlights how Szoboszlai is eager to become vice-captain, attracted by the status of the role. “Leaving the armband to Tsimikas was a rather bizarre choice, and throwing the captain’s armband out of anger was not a smart move,” adds The Telegraph. Jones‘ outburst on the pitch, with the dramatic gesture of pointing to his arm, is described as “senseless” by the newspaper, which points out that the right time and place to vent frustrations would have been the locker room behind closed doors.

According to The Telegraph, the midfielder’s frustration stems from not being a regular starter and the thought of a possible transfer to Inter. The English newspaper also recalls the end of last season for Liverpool, with the team “limping across the finish line like a cyclist with flat tires” and some members of the locker room apparently not fully committed.

Iraola spoke about leadership and professional standards, emphasizing that a title is not needed to be considered authoritative. Jones, in general, has always given his best, but uncertainty about his future is growing with Inter‘s renewed interest, as they now await a response to their third offer.
