The defense of Inter is preparing for a rather deep overhaul in the summer. Barring any last-minute surprises, the backline will lose both Francesco Acerbi and Stefan de Vrij, both out of contract and now considered on the fringes of the project. The management will therefore have to replace both central defenders in the squad, and it is likely that Matteo Darmian will also leave, also on a free transfer.
According to Corriere dello Sport, among the most recent profiles considered, in addition to Mario Gila, the name of Leo Ostigard has also emerged, currently enjoying an excellent season with Genoa. Contacts are said to have already entered a concrete phase, with Inter having even received an initial valuation: 12 million euros for the Norwegian’s transfer.
From a tactical point of view, Ostigard can play both in a back four and in a three-man defense, always as a central defender, with good ball-playing ability from the back and great aggressiveness in marking. He could therefore represent a sort of mix between the best qualities of Acerbi and de Vrij.
