Inter seems to have clear ideas for the wing market: Palestra or no signing in January. This is the line prevailing in the Nerazzurri camp, as reported this morning by Corriere dello Sport. Despite the long absence of Dumfries being a concrete problem, the club considers it of little use to intervene with a simple stopgap that would not change the balance of the squad.
The strategy is to rely on the players already available: Luis Henrique, who is finally coming out of the shadows, the returning Darmian and, when necessary, the adaptable Carlos Augusto. This approach could naturally change, but for now the priority is to secure a quality reinforcement for next season. Especially considering that the departure of Dumfries at the end of the season is becoming an increasingly likely hypothesis, as also suggested by the recent change of agent.
The young player from Atalanta, currently on loan at Cagliari, represents the ideal profile. Born in 2005, he will turn 21 next March 3 and is proving week after week to be a driving force. In addition to his technical qualities, the fact that he is Italian makes him perfectly in line with Oaktree‘s criteria.
The main issue concerns the price. His excellent performances have increased his valuation, with some sources already talking about 40 million euros. Perhaps that figure has not yet been reached, but Atalanta has proven to be an expensive shop, as Inter already experienced last summer. When they do not need to sell, the Bergamo club allows very little room for negotiation.
Relations between the two clubs remain good nonetheless. Any tension related to the Lookman case has subsided, so much so that the sale of Zalewski to Atalanta was recently finalized. This leaves room to sit at the table and discuss a possible agreement, perhaps involving some technical counterpart in the move from Milan to Bergamo. In any case, it would be preferable for any meeting to take place soon, to get ahead of the already fierce competition for the player.
