The trail leading to Joao Cancelo has definitively closed. The Portuguese player, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, will return to Barcelona until June, as he wished. The Catalan club has chosen to overcome the Financial Fair Play restrictions by presenting a concrete offer to Al-Hilal, the club where the winger currently plays.
For Inter, Cancelo represented a low-cost opportunity, perfect from a technical point of view. However, the Nerazzurri club does not intend to fill the gap left by Denzel Dumfries‘ injury, at least for the moment. It is not ruled out that a similar opportunity may arise during the transfer window, but at the moment there are no ready alternatives:
“The intention is not to immediately look for another full-back: for now, in agreement with Chivu, the club intends to stay as is, confirming their trust in Luis Henrique, and waiting for new possibilities. Cancelo was and is considered by Inter as a simple ‘opportunity’, something unexpected but very useful for the team’s play. Without Cancelo’s immediate availability, however, president Beppe Marotta and director Piero Ausilio intend to proceed with caution and do not want to immediately shift their attention elsewhere,” it reads.
